Rahul Gandhi in Basti, Uttar Pradesh, 2nd February 2012, Part-4



While addressing an election rally at Basti as part of his ongoing campaign for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said while taking a dig at BJP’s slogan ‘India Shining’ that there should be proper thought before making a slogan.
“Now time has come to change the bad state of affairs in Uttar Pradesh. You go to other places and bring in positive changes there. The moment you have a Government of aam aadmi the state will start progressing. We assure you that a Congress Government will bring in development here. You gave 22 years to others. Now please give five years to Congress.” he urged.

Sonia Gandhi: Opposition tries to block the welfare policies

Congress President Sonia Gandhi kick started her campaign in the poll bound Uttar Pradesh slammed the opposition for blocking the welfare policies of the UPA Government. Sonia Gandhi also said that because of the anti-poor policies of the non-Congress governments, the state of U.P slipped backwards. She also assured a pro-poor government by the Congress if voted to power.

“The UPA Government at the Centre made a lot of policies for the welfare of the poor. Now we are ready with the food Security Bill to make sure that no one in the country lives in hunger. But what is happening? The opposition is trying to block the policy and is spreading baseless allegations”, said Sonia Gandhi referring Congress-led UPA Government’s policies.

“They do not understand the difficulties of the poor. They do not realsie the requirements of the people of U.P, the farmers and labourers. They are not bothered about the pathetic condition of the industries. But we do” said the UPA Chairperson.

Sonia Gandhi urged the voters to support and elect a Congress Government in Uttar Pradesh for the development of the state and future of the people. She assured a Congress Government will be a government of the people of Uttar Pradesh.

Priyanka Gandhi's election campaign for Congress in U.P, Part 1



Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, daughter of the Congress President and UPA Chair person Sonia Gandhi and the sister of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, is campaigning for the Congress in Uttar Pradesh. She has been campaigning extensively in Amethi and Raebareli, the constituencies of her brother Rahul Gandhi and mother Sonia Gandhi respectively.
She emphasized that Rahul Gandhi has been doing commendable developmental activities in Amethi. She also detailed the welfare policies of the Congress-led UPA Government at the centre. Priyanka Gandhi said that the policies like MNREGA has brought tremendous changes in the lives of the poor in the country. By this scheme every poor is ensured minimum 100 days of job every year at the rate of Rs. Rs. 120/- per day. With this Act poor persons in the entire country is being benefitted, she added.

But I am not here to seek votes but only to remind you about safeguarding your future. Now is it safe in the hands of Rahulji and Soniaji” said Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
“Rahulji and Soniaji work for you all the time. Their life and future is connected with yours. Their affection with you is well known to you” she added.
