Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi reach for the Congress meeting at Surajkund

Congress President and UPA chairperson sonia Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi arrive Surajkund in Haryana for the Samvad Baithak. The party is set to discuss the present political situation and also will plan strategies for the coming general elections.

Rahul Gandhi in Delhi: Only Congress can change the system

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi encouraged Congress supporters on Sunday, at a big rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, defending the UPA government and exhorting the youth to join politics. He also used the opportunity to launch a blistering attack on the opposition for halting the welfare policies of the central government.

Rahul Gandhi vowed to fight to modernise the country through reforms that he said would help the poor and provide jobs for the poor. "We need economic reforms because only when businesses operate well will there be progress, and then we can run programmes to benefit the poor," he said.

"The world is saying that India is standing up," he said at the rally adding "The youth here will show not just India but also the whole world the way forward."

He also slammed the opposition for halting the central policies which are beneficial for the poor.  “Our country is fast growing and the entire globe appreciates that. But here the opposition just opposes all our development oriented policies. They are not bothered about the losses of the farmers, workers or the youth. We also were in opposition. When the Kargil war broke out, we stood by the government and extended our whole hearted support to the Vajpayee Government. We never opposed any move by the government which is helpful for the country and the people. Because, the country is supreme for us” he said.

Reiterating the need to change and cleanse the political system Rahul Gandhi said “We have to open the door of the system for all. We will have to listen to the lakhs people are assembled here. They are the future and we should give them a chance to become the leaders of tomorrow.  If we want the country to surge ahead, we the Congress party, should open our doors for the youth and common people.  Only we can do it. The opposition can only create obstructions”.

While concluding his address Rahul Gandhi said “I am confident that our country will stand up and the entire world will appreciate us. The youth here will show not just India but also the whole world the way forward. The Congress will help them by giving space in our political journey”.

Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi visit Amethi

Congress General Secretary Rahul andhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached Amethi. Amethi is the Parliament constituency of Rahul Gandhi. They will interact with Congress workers and supporters. Priyanka andhi will later go to Raebareli, the parliament constituency of her mother Sonia Gandhi.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra while campaigning in Raebareli on 11th February 2012 requested the people to support congress and help it form a pro-poor Government in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Priyanka Gandhi said that a Congress Government will protect the rights of the people. she also informed that Congress led government at the Centre frames policies after going to the people and identifying their rights. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is secheduled to campaign in Amethi and Raebareli in UP.

Sonia Gandhi at Raebareli, inaugurates Rail coach factory, assures more

New Delhi: Congress President and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday inaugurated a modern rail coach factory in her Lok Sabha constituency, Rae Bareli. Sonia Gandhi also handed over appointment letters to farmers whose land was used for the project. She also laid the foundation stone for the doubling of Raebareli-Utratiya rail line and a multifunctional complex in Raebareli.

Apart from the coach factory, the Congress President also announced various other development projects in Raebareli. “The laying of foundation stones for doubling the 65 km long Raebareli-Utratiya rail line and a multifunctional complex were also done. Further the modernization of Raebareli railway station has also begun aiming to provide the passengers with more facilities.  A new rail line will be laid between Raebareli-Akbarganj and Amethi-Unchchahar. Apart from the expansion and renovation of platform in Raebareli railway station, the electrification of Mugal Sarai-Uchchahar railway line also will be completed soon. The Allahabad-Phaphamau rail line will be doubled”.

Sonia Gandhi also expressed hope that the new rail coach factory will provide job opportunities to the local residents, youth and farmers who have given their land for this project and would add to the development of the area. 

The Rae Bareli coach factory is expected to cater to Railways’ increasing demand by annually rolling out about 1,000 coaches. Sonia Gandhi also informed that the coaches from the Rae Bareli coach factory will have more modern amenities for the passengers. 

Railways had acquired 541 hectares for the coach manufacturing factory. The foundation stone for the Rae Bareli rail coach factory was laid by Sonia Gandhi on February 13, 2007 and the inauguration for construction of the factory was done by her on January 27, 2009.

Sonia Gandhi at NIFT, Raebareli recollects Indira Gandhi’s dress sense

Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi attended the convocation of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and laid foundation stone of its new building at her Parliament constituency, Raebareli.

While addressing the gathering, the Congress President said “In my view fashion does not mean opulence.  Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who was a Member of Parliament from this constituency, had an innate sense of fashion and the simplicity of her elegance was admired all over the world”.

Appreciating the dress sense and simplicity of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the Congress President said “Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who was a Member of Parliament from this constituency, had an innate sense of fashion and the simplicity of her elegance was admired all over the world”.

Expressing her happiness to lay the foundation stone for the permanent centre Sonia Gandhi said “Five and half years back I was privileged to start the NIFT centre at Raebareli at its temporary premises and today I am delighted to have laid the foundation stone for its permanent centre and also addressing this convocation”.

“Adding more and more ornamentation to our garments is very easy but that does not add up to the fashion. To find the right colour combination, cut and proportion in a garment to ensure that it is comfortable as well is more challenging for a designer but it results in a  garment that is timelessly stylish and elegant” added and Member of Parliament from Raebareli.

NIFT, Rae Bareli, is the first centre to be set up in any backward area of the country and the foundation was laid by Sonia Gandhi.  The Raebareli NIFT Centre had become operational from August, 2007. In November 2007, the government had decided to set up a full-fledged permanent Centre in place of an extension Centre at Raebareli.
