Farmers’ insurance scam in Mayawati government: Congress (I)

Congress (I) has slashed Mayawati government for scam in farmers’ insurance scheme by which the insurance amount has been denied to poor farmers in Uttar Pradesh. There is provision for insurance of farmers against calamities like drought, flood etc. The full premium for the insurance is recovered from farmers. The scheme is for the benefit of farmers, said Congress (I). But farmers are being denied the benefits of this scheme by Mayawati government. Their claims are not settled. The affected farmers keep running from post to pillar but without getting any relief which they are legally entitled to. But administration of Mayawati government is insensitive to the problems being faced by the farmers. Congress (I) has said farmers’ insurance scheme has turned out to be failure. For instance last year in Bijnor district there were floods as a result government assessed loss of Rs 10 crores to the farmers but till date nothing has been paid to the farmers by way of insurance relief, said Congress (I).
