Continuing to focus the attention of the people to their neglect and backwardness by BSP government, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said the people are disenchanted with Mayawati rule. She has failed to deliver on the promises she gave to the people during 2007 Assembly elections, he said while addressing public meetings in Gorakhpur and Azamgarh on February 8 for the ongoing Assembly elections 2012. He asked the audience ‘how long you will tolerate the misrule.’ He pointed out that the parties that have been alternatively ruling the state for the last twenty two years offered empty promises to the people to grab their votes but once in power they forgot about their promises and remained busy in sharing the spoils. Funds sent by Congress (I)-led UPA government at the center for welfare and development schemes such as MNREGA were looted by Mayawati government. The poor to whom that money was addressed did not get anything, he said. ‘The youth is without employment, people without health care, student without quality education and farmers are compelled to buy seeds and fertilizers in black market rather than on the subsidized rates announced by central government,’ he further said. Highlighting that Mayawati has repeatedly failed to deliver on her promises, Rahul Gandhi urged the people this time to give a chance to Congress (I) to form government and assured them that his party would transform the state into No. 1 position in the country and they would be able see the changes in next five years.
