Congress (I) takes care of minorities as well: PM

Calling attention of the people to lack of development and overall bad situation in the state, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said only Congress (I) – inclusive policy – could ensure welfare and development of entire people of Uttar Pradesh. “We've taken a lot of initiatives for the minorities' welfare and got good results,” said the Prime Minister while addressing a public meeting in Kanpur for the ongoing Assembly elections. As soon as Congress (I)-led UPA formed government at the centre it set up Sachhar Committee to look into socio-economic situation of the Muslims. The recommendations of the Committee have been implemented in states ruled by Congress (I) like Maharashtra, Haryana and Delhi. But Mayawati government has not implemented them in Uttar Pradesh. Congress (I)-led UPA government has also announced 4.5% quota for the Muslims minority community for reservations in government and educational employment. Scholarships for Muslims students have also been increased both at school and higher levels. Highlighting that other parties like BSP and SP have treated the minorities as hostages without doing anything for them, Congress (I) has urged the minority to vote it to power for its secular and progressive policies. Congress (I) has assured them it will continue to work for their welfare and would review 4.5% quota for increase in proportion to their population. This would help them to better their socio-economic status and to fulfill their aspirations in life like any other citizen in the country.
