Congress unearths scams in Social Welfare under Maya

Blaming Mayawati for failing to provide good governance, Congress (I) has said scams have taken place in government departments due to rampant corruption. Officials are indulging in open corruption because there is no one to stop them. In Basti a class IV employee of Social Welfare Department was put up as Thekedar for construction work. This was done in connivance of officials of the department. As a result scam of crores of rupees took place. While in the record the work was carried out in the name of Social Welfare Department, expenditure for it was paid out of local MLA and MP funds. No investigation was ordered, said Congress (I). Since department itself was involved the matter was hushed up as if everything was in order. Congress (I) has highlighted that this has encouraged unscrupulous officials to further indulge in bigger scandalous deals.
