Accusing Mayawati for looting the money of the poor to fulfill her greed for wealth, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has accused Mayawati government of Rs.2,500 crore scam in the MGNREGA funds sent by Center under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act scheme for providing guaranteed employment to poor people living in rural areas. Huge financial irregularities have been committed by Mayawati government and funds have been misused, Rahul Gandhi said while campaigning for the ongoing Assembly elections. Even CAG has pulled up Maya government for this. MGNREGA Scheme provides guaranteed employment to poor people in rural areas. Mayawati government claims to have spent Rs 4331 crore out of Rs 6401 crore made available to it. But ground realities are different. Funds have been used for purchasing items like laptops and payment of transportation and conveyance charges instead of providing employment to people living below poverty line. On paper employment was given to poor people but enquiries have revealed that it was not done. Highlighting that she failed to look after the welfare of the poor, Rahul Gandhi urged the people not to trust her any more. He appealed the people to vote for Congress (I) and assured that a government of the poor by Congress (I) will work for their welfare.
