Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi while addressing a Congress rally in Meerut as part of his campaign for Congress in Uttar Pradesh said that the biggest problem at present in UP is that the leaders do not go to the people.
“Mayawati was the Chief Minister for the past five years in U.P” said Rahul Gandhi and then asked “Did she come to you even once? Did Mulayam Ji ever come to you?” The crowd responded loudly with ‘no’.
“The state cannot develop till the leaders go to people and interact with them to realize their issues. You see the state of Andhra Pradesh. Congress developed the state in ten years because our leaders went to the people to understand their grievances”, claimed the Congress leader.
“We – Congress- made policies like MNREGA, waived-off loans of farmers and now we are in the process of bringing the right to food legislation by which every poor is assured of 35 Kg of food grain. But when we design such policies opposition led by the BJP ask us from where will the money come?” wondered the Congress General Secretary.
Rahul Gandhi argued that these parties raise such questions because they are not bothered about the poor. The Congress General Secretary also assured that a Congress government in UP will put an end to this bad state of affairs and if voted to power.
