Mayawati encouraged nepotism: Congress

Lashing out at Mayawati for crippling the state administration by picking up mediocre and corrupt officers for appointment to important positions, Congress (I) has blamed her for encouraging nepotism resulting in corruption reaching new heights. Mayawati is running the most corrupt government in the country, said Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi during his Congress campaign in Uttar Pradesh. There is corruption everywhere, said Rahul Gandhi. For instance, lime, sand, quarry stone mines have been leased in surreptitious, manipulative manner; and tender were rigged in connivance with the ministers and legislators, informed the Congress leader. Congress alleged that Illegal tax known as hafta, now known in the whole of the state as Maya Tax is being forcibly collected. The Congress also said that all government contracts from liquor licences to road construction contract are being given to BSP sympathetic thekedars. Even the beneficiaries of social welfare schemes have not been spared. They are made to shell out ‘forced payment’. Highlighting that she miserably failed to provide good governance, Rahul Gandhi, urged the people to show her the door. The Congress General Secretary had appealed the people to give a chance to Congress to form a government and promised that a Congress (I) would provide responsive and good governance to the people.
