Rahul Gandhi had said this on many occasions. During his recent election campaign in Uttar Pradesh also he shared this view with the people.
While slamming non-Congress parties - BSP, SP and BJP- for their misrule in the past 22 years, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi had said that these non-Congress parties ignored problems of the people like the issues in drought-hit Bundelkhand. Starving conditions prevailed in the region but no leader from these parties had tried to help them, Rahul Gandhi had alleged.
“People of the region have been crying for help from the state government. But no one in the state had helped them”, added Rahul Gandhi. “Mulayam Singh Yadav was chief minister from 2002 to 2007 but did not bother to visit the area to know the problems of the people much less to help them. Mayawati also ignored the pain of Bundelkhand and never visited the region”, had said Rahul Gandhi.
“I went to the region and people told me about their pain. I led a delegation to the Prime Minister and the Congress led centre sanctioned a special package of Rs 8,000 crore for the development of the region,” informed Rahul Gandhi. “But the money was swindled by BSP ministers and the benefits did not reach the people,” concerned the Congress leader.
Rahul Gandhi keeps on arguing that non-Congress parties are not interested in the welfare of the people. He also maintains that only Congress is really committed to work for the welfare of the poor and downtrodden in the country.
