Sonia Gandhi leads massive opposition march to President's House against Modi govt’s Land Bill

Congress president Sonia Gandhi led over 100 leaders from eleven opposition parties as they marched in a massive show of strength against the controversial Land Acquisition Bill to President's House in New Delhi on Tuesday. The march started from the Mahatma Gandhi statue outside Parliament and is expected to end with a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee against the amendments proposed by the Narendra Modi government to a similar bill passed by the UPA in 2013. Other leaders who walked with Sonia included former prime minister Manmohan Singh, CPM's Sitaram Yechury, CPI's D Raja, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien and Dinesh Trivedi, Samajwadi Party's Ramgopal Yadav, DMK's Kanimozhi, INLD's Dushyant Chautala and the RJD's Prem Chand Gupta.

“What did we do? We did not watch TV. We came to you and asked about your difficulties”. Addressing the women audience Rahul Gandhi continued “These women told me that there are no jobs available in the villages. Jobs are available only in the cities. That is why we have MGNREGA now. “This Government is not of Congress but it is yours. We just have one thing. Your trust” asserted Rahul Gandhi. “For the past 22 years you have been supporting other parties here. But none of them gave you the respect you deserve. They keep giving promises that they would give you electricity, water and will help the farmers. But when they come to power they loot your money. The magic elephant in Lucknow gobbles up the funds meant for the poor, instead of grass and leaves. It eats up your money daily”.

Non-Congress parties never listen to the voice of poor says Rahul Gandhi

While addressing a well attended election rally in Ambedkar Nagar as part of his poll campaign in Uttar Pradesh said that the voices of the poor and amm aadmi go unheard in the state. He assured that the Congress is committed to serve the poor and downtrodden and a Congress Government will bring back developments in the state of Uttar Pradesh

“What did we do? We came to you and asked about your difficulties. You had told us that there are no sufficient jobs available in the villages. The people are forced to migrate to big cities for jobs. So the first thing we did was to implement MNREGA, the biggest employment guarantee scheme, to guarantee jobs for all,” said Rahul Gandhi on UPA’s Mahatma Gandhi NREGA policy.

“Then we went to the farmers and asked about their problems. They told us that the doors of the banks are closed for them and many of them are being burdened with huge loans. The Centre took necessary measures to open the doors of the banks for the farmers and also framed a policy to waive off loan of the poor farmers worth Rs. 60000 crore. This was the biggest ever loan-waive off scheme,” informed Rahul Gandhi.

“When we were planning these polices what other parties – SP, BSP and BJP – were doing? Mayawati Ji said that there is no need of MNREGA in U.P. The BJP asked us from where we will have the money for the schemes”, he informed.

“Why do they behave like this? They do not come to you. You daily put in your hard work and develop the country. But nobody listens to you. But I am here to listen to your grievances. I know that the entire country is progressing because of your hard work,” asserted Rahul Gandhi.
