Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi kick-started her election campaign in Uttar Pradesh with a well attended rally in Gonda today. She said that the twenty two years' non-Congress regimes ruined the state of Uttar Pradesh. Sonia Gandhi started her speech by recollecting the contribution of U.P and said "I feel happy that I got an opportunity to meet the people of Uttar Pradesh. The moment I put my feet on this land mixed feelings come to my mind... At one hand I am proud about the state of Uttar Pradesh, but on the other side I feel sad to see the state of affairs here. I am proud to remember the glorious contribution of the people of U.P during the freedom struggle. I also feel proud for the rich contribution by the people of this state in the fields of Sanskrit, Urdu and Hindi literature. I also recollect the wonderful history and the cultural tradition of U.P".

Even a child knows that no jobs are available in U.P: Rahul Gandhi

The Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi who has been spearheading the Congress campaign in Uttar Pradesh said while addressing a well attended rally in Sitapur said that the people of U.P are forced to migrate to other places like Maharashtra, Mumbai and Delhi for jobs as there are no jobs available in U.P. Rahul Gandhi also held the 22 years non-Congress rule in the state for the pathetic state of affairs in Uttar Pradesh.

“Even a child in Uttar Pradesh knows that it is not possible for anyone to fetch a job here. This is the condition in your state” said the Congress leader.

“We made policies like MNREGA, waived-off loans of farmers and now we are in the process of bringing the right to food policy by which every poor is assured of 35 Kg of food grain. When we make these policies Mayawati Ji and the BJP ask us from where will the money come?” he wondered.

The state of Uttar Pradesh will go to the polls in a seven-phased elections from February 6.
