Referring to unjust policies and forcible possession of poor farmers’ lands by Mayawati government, Rahul Gandhi has said Congress (I) has been leading the cause of the people of Uttar Pradesh. He cited Bhatta-Parsaul incident, where farmers were targeted in May and said none of the other parties barring the Congress (I) were seen there. Mayawati instead of helping the farmers have been forcibly acquiring their agricultural lands and reselling them to private builders at rates 10 to 15 times higher than those paid to poor farmers as compensation. Mayawati has been playing same trick in other places like Thapal in Aligarh and along Yamuna Expressway. It was Rahul Gandhi who has been mobilizing the farmers’ movement for market price of their lands by sitting on dharna and courting arrest besides forcing the Mayawati government to change its compensation policy. Now Congress (I) has brought a new Land Acquisition & RR Bill before the Parliament which is pro-farmer, said Rahul Gandhi.
