Congress (I) has said it is unfortunate that Mayawati has been doing politics in the name of dalits but not for dalits. Mayawati had promised to work for dalits and got their votes. But once in power, she forgot the dalits. Mayawati showed the same rosy dreams to OBCs and minorities but their plight continues to be same as before, said Congress (I). Mayawati’s caste-based politics vitiated the political environment in the state in the same manner as it was done by BJP’s religion-based movement. It is only Congress (I) which has based its political approach on the welfare of aam aadmi irrespective of his/her caste or religion. It is Congress (I) which has done more for dalits, OBCs and minorities than any other political party. Its open proof is that Rahul Gandhi has often been visiting the houses of dalits and staying with them to understand their problems which no other leader in Uttar Pradesh has done, said Congress (I).
