Rahul speaks for the weavers of Aligarh, at Phulpur

In his addressing to the large number of people gathered at Phulpur rally, the AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi brought into light the issue of weavers of Uttar Pradesh who are suffering due to shutting down of the weaving industry in Allahabad.

“I visited weavers in Aligarh. The weavers there said their industry had died. I met many weavers in Navada. They said earlier many people came there, trade used to take place. There was work, there were gains. Everything ended. Now, they were laborers.”

“What was Uttar Pradesh government doing? It was looking somewhere else, it ignored their plight. What we did – we went to the Prime Minister and said weavers were facing grave problem. We have to help people from all religions and cast there. The PM sent a package of Rs. 3,000 crore.”

Along with many other problems of the poor and downtrodden the Congress General Secretary has spoken firmly on, the issue of the weavers suffering at the hands of bad economic policy in the state has given a new dimension to the murky state of affairs in UP.
