Mayawati failed to check crime against women: Rahul Gandhi

Lashing out against Mayawati for failing to provide good governance to the people of the Uttar Pradesh, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said she failed to check crime against women particularly those against women of weaker sections. “Pradesh andher nagri ban gaya hai (darkness of crime has engulfed the state). Loot-khosat ki rajniti chal rahi hai (politics of extortion is in full swing). Praja ko sunne wala koi nahe hai (there is no body to attend to the grievances of the people), said Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public meeting as part of his campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections in February 2012. Mayawati put aside critical political, economic and social issues of the state and preferred to indulge in corrupt practices to amass money. He reminded the people, “You have seen what happened in Gautam Budh Nagar to the farmers whose lands were forcibly grabbed by the BSP government for handing over to corporate builders. Farmers were paid paltry sum. But those very lands were later sold to private builders at 10 to 15 higher rates” said Rahul Gandhi. Appealing people to put an end to her government, Rahul Gandhi urged them to vote this time for Congress (I) which, he promised, would provide responsive government to the people of the state.
