Scams and corruption have denied people in Uttar Pradesh of the benefits of Central schemes and funds, said Congress President and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi while speaking at a mammoth Congress rally in Aligarh as part of her Congress campaign in UP. In her 20-minute-long speech at the Exhibition Ground in Aligarh, Sonia Gandhi said that the Congress led central government was giving huge funds for development under various schemes. “But due to looters and scamsters, people had not benefitted”, concerned Sonia Gandhi.
The Congress President added that fertilizers had been provided for farmers by the central ministry but it was not reaching the people. Sonia Gandhi said Aligarh was a historical city which mirrored our composite culture. The Congress was committed to promoting this ‘tahzeeb’.
"We (Congress) believe to take entire sections of society to the path of development but the backwards need special support therefore we (Congress) have made new schemes for the poor and the underprivileged sections. Villages and rural areas are important for development of the country," said Sonia Gandhi.
The Congress President promised that the Aligarh lock industry workers that their interests would be taken care of and problems sorted out. Sonia Gandhi urged the people to support Congress and help it to form a Government in Uttar Pradesh.
Sonia Gandhi had attended the meeting along with Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Ajit Singh.
