Rahul Gandhi: Mayawati cheated even the old citizens by indulging in pension scam

Slamming BSP supremo Mayawati for not ensuring welfare of old age persons and widows having no source of income, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has accused her of large scale scam in old age and widows’ pension scheme in Uttar Pradesh. The scheme is not reaching the deserving while the money is being looted in the name of bogus persons, had said Rahul Gandhi while campaigning for the recently held Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The scheme is meant to provide social security to persons of old age and widows who do not have any source for their livelihood. But bogus and persons for whom this scheme is not meant is taking advantage of this scheme to make money, added the Congress leader. In Bahraich district there are 86035 beneficiaries of this scheme. On scrutiny as many as 20,000 beneficiaries were found bogus. 2,500 people had died but pensions are being released in their names. In Azamgarh district 28 people including 26 women were found to be drawing pension on the basis of fraudulent documents. Mayawati government by such machination has deprived the deserving people the benefits of old age and widow’s pension scheme, said Rahul Gandhi.
