Poor suffered under non-Congress govts: Rahul Gandhi

Blaming non-Congress parties for indulging in vote bank politics of caste and religion and doing nothing to address the issues of the people, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said that dalits, poor, OBCs and minorities have suffered most under BSP, SP and BJP rule in UP during the last twenty two years. These parties only increased the misery of the people, Rahul Gandhi said while campaigning for the ongoing Assembly elections. The people’s issues remain unattended; there is no progress, he further said. These leaders do not talk of removal of poverty. Instead they only talk about caste and religion. Central government has been sending funds in thousands of crore for implementation of welfare schemes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, National Rural Health Mission. But the money meant for poor people is not reaching the people. Highlighting that the money sent by Centre for the poor has been pocketed by corrupt politicians, Rahul Gandhi urged the people to vote for his party and assured that Congress (I) will provide responsible government which would work for their welfare and development of the state.

‘Congress (I) is the only alternative in Uttar Pradesh’

Blaming BJP, SP and BSP for not providing good governance and development to the people, AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said people are looking forward to Congress (I) as the only alternative. BJP exploited sentiments of the people to grab power but did nothing for them, Rahul Gandhi said while campaigning for the ongoing Assembly elections. Mulayam Singh Yadav kept riding SP cycle but punctured hope of the people. The present BSP government of Mayawati has been disgraced with corruption and crime. A CBI case of possession of assets disproportionate to her known sources of income is already pending against her. Although CBI is ready to file the charge sheet against her, she has managed to get stay order from the Supreme Court. Highlighting that Congress (I) has experience, visionary plans and above all it is a time tested party, Rahul Gandhi urged the people to vote for his party. He assured that Congress (I) would provide corruption-free, transparent and responsive government which will fulfill the aspirations of the people.

We had not showered promises but assured only one thing – a government of aam aadmi that works for poor, farmers, minorities, women, dalits, Christian, Muslims, Hindu and adivasis. In 2009, you gave us mandate again, with a better margin,” said the Congress General Secretary.

Mayawati deprived farmers subsidy: Rahul Gandhi

Lashing out against Mayawati for providing undue benefits to fertilizer units, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has blamed her for depriving the farmers of fertilizer subsidy. Congress (I)-led UPA government at the Centre had declared subsidy on fertilizers with an object to enable farmers to purchase agricultural in-puts at concessional rates Rahul Gandhi said while campaigning for the ongoing Assembly elections. But she took no interest to help the poor farmers who are dependent on good seeds and fertilizers for good harvest. Fertilizer units of the state in the conspiracy with state officials showed production of fertilizers beyond their capacity and collected undue subsidy from the Central government. However, the farmers instead of getting the benefit of subsidy had to buy the fertilizer by paying even up to Rs 100 more for each bag. Highlighting that she has been following anti-farmer policies Rahul Gandhi said farmers are eager to show her the door this time. He appealed the people to vote for Congress (I) and assured that a government of the poor by Congress (I) will work for welfare of the farmers.

BSP ministers had fun, poor suffered: Rahul Gandhi

Accusing Mayawati of running the most corrupt and atrocious government, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said her ministers had fun time while the poor suffered deprivation of all sorts. These ministers misused their official positions, grabbed government / panchayat lands and made money by any fowl way, Rahul Gandhi said while addressing a public meeting in Jewar, Noida on February 23 for the ongoing Assembly elections.

In a latest case UP Lokayukta has recommended CBI and Enforcement Directorate probe against BSP minister Naseemuddin Siddique. The minister has been found possessing assets disproportionate to his income. The assets were acquired after Siddique become minister. In the past Lokayukta has indicted scores of BSP ministers on corruption charges and Mayawati had to remove them. Numbers of other BSP ministers and legislators have been convicted by courts for criminal charges like rape, murder and extortions. These ministers fleeced the people and had fun while the poor suffered miseries of hunger and poverty in silence.

Highlighting that the only way to come out of this sordid situation was to put Congress (I) in driver’s seat in Lucknow, Rahul Gandhi fervently appealed to the people to vote for Congress (I) to make this possible. He assured that his party would provide responsible government which would work for their welfare and ensue that the benefits of the schemes reach the poor without fail.

Rahul Gandhi: Leaders do not go to the people to gather knowledge

“People have the knowledge. I go to them to share their knowledge. But the leaders in UP are not doing so” said Rahul Gandhi – the Congress General Secretary – while addressing a mammoth election rally in Pilibhit as part of his campaign in poll bound Uttar Pradesh. This has been happening for the past 22 years, he added.

“The women and the youth in our country possess tremendous knowledge. But these leaders are not interested to gather the same because they are not keen for development,” argued Rahul Gandhi.

“They do not want to listen to you or solve your difficulties. They think that they can fool you by just showering promises on you. This has been happening for the past 22 years,” he continued.

Rahul Gandhi then commented, “The people are also responsible for this. In the last 22 years, you have been electing Governments which never bothered about the people”.

“We (Congress) also run a Government at the Centre, since 2004. We came to you and enquired about your difficulties. When we realized the problems of the farmers we designed a policy to waive-off the loans for them worth Rs. 60000 crore. We fought for the farmers in Tappal and Bhatta-Parsaul. What did the Mayawati or Mulayam do for the farmers? They grabbed their lands. When the poor farmers demanded adequate compensation, they received bullets. Mayawati is the Chief Minister, but she never went there. Mulayam Singh Ji now promises to help farmers but he never found it necessary to visit the aggrieved farmers. When I went there, Mayawati Ji and Mulayam Ji call me mad,” argued Rahul Gandhi.

“No farmers are against development. They are ready to give their lads for roads or any other infrastructure,” he quipped.

Mayawati wants power, not welfare of the poor: Congress (I)

Blaming Mayawati for being more interested in manipulation of power for personal gains, Congress (I) has said she wants to enjoy power but does not care for the welfare of the poor on whose vote she came to power. She has been building BSP around her person rather than giving the party institutional foundations. When things are personalized, principles get side stepped.

She has been indiscriminately inducting persons of dubious character, opportunists, party switcher, turncoats and persons of criminal background. Such types of leaders have lynched the people instead of working for their welfare. As a result money sent by Congress (I)-led UPA government for the welfare schemes for the poor is being looted by these goons and the poor get nothing.

During his campaign for upcoming UP Assembly elections Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said this bad situation will not end unless the people vote for the change. He promised that if given chance this time a government of the poor by Congress (I) will work for the welfare of all the people of the state.
