Sonia Gandhi: BSP regime created hurdles at every step by the Congress to help UP

Accompanied by daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Sonia Gandhi made her first public appearance in her constituency for the recently concluded assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh. In her brief and brisk address, the Congress President attacked the two decade’s non Congress rule for the bad state of affairs in the state and said that Congress is the only viable alternative to bring back the development.

Targeting Mayawati in particular for looting Rs 1 lakh crore sent by the Central government for funding various projects', Sonia Gandhi said: "while the Centre had never differentiated in allocation of funds to UP, the Mayawati Government regime created hurdles at every step."

Sonia Gandhi further said “Congres led UPA government’s welfare policies like Mahatma Gandhi NREGA, Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna (PMGSY), National Rural Health Mission NRHM have failed to benefit the people because the money sent for its implementation was swindled by the corrupt regime.”

Sonia Gandhi blamed that apart from the BSP, BJP and SP governments also failed to provide good governance in UP which has seen practically no development over the last twenty two years. The Congress president urged the crowd to rise above the caste and religion-based politics propagated by non-Congress parties and strengthen the hands of Congress by supporting its candidates.

Rahul Gandhi: Only Congress has visionary plans, agenda and commitment

Slamming Mayawati’s BSP, SP and BJP for keeping Uttar Pradesh dark and under the clouds of corruption, crime and casteism, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi promised that Uttar Pradesh would be again No. 1 state, if Congress (I) gets a chance to rule the the state.

Congress (I) will convert UP into a progressive state, promised Rahul Gandhi while campaigning for the Congress in Uttar Pradesh. The state has got all the resources it needs, its people are talented, honest and hardworking; then why there is no development and prosperity in the Uttar Pradesh, asked Rahul Gandhi. It is only because of the unprincipled, opportunistic and caste based politics by governments of these parties there has not been any development, argued the Congress leader.

Congress can change all this because only it has visionary plans, agenda and commitment to make Uttar Pradesh No. 1 state in the country again, said Rahul Gandhi. “Give us five years and we will change the face of the state. In another five years we (Congress) will take Uttar Pradesh to the number one position in the country,” said Rahul Gandhi.
