Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi inaugurated a four day training programme of the Youth Congress in Ludhiana on Tuesday. This programme- Yuva Drishti 2009- is an attempt to train the young Congressmen on how to go to the masses. Experts from Bangalore based consultancy- Institute of Leadership and Institutional Development (ILID) and other reputed social organizations gave lectures to young party leaders on how to nurture grassroot level leadership...
Speaking on this occasion, Congress General Secretary asked the Youth Congress leaders to swim against the tide and face all atrocities by ruling party if they wanted to carve a niche for themselves in politics. He said that implication of Youth leaders in false cases was not “abnormal” in politics and they might have to face vendetta. “It will help you to emerge as seasoned leaders,” he added.
Congress General Secretary discussed the problem of ever-increasing population, female foeticide and drug addiction in Punjab. He appealed to the youth to work towards eradicating these evils.
The young leader listened attentively to the experts’ talk which aimed to train Youth Congress leaders to highlight the achievements of the UPA government. The main focus was on National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Right to Information Act and the anti- corruption drive of the government.
ILID founder- director Dr G. K. Jayram and social entrepreneurs, Dr Vijay Mahajan, Dr Suresh Sharma and Dr Somnath Ghosh, gave tips to the young leadership. “ The Youth Congress leaders will return as strong party representatives,” he said.
A young leader said, “An enthusiastic Rahul declared that the Youth Congress had opened its doors to young people who would carve out a roadmap for the party to stay in power, reach out to the masses and address major issues”.
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi gave a patient hearing to the grievances of the Punjab youth leadership.
