Black-market of agriculture in-puts under Maya govt: Congress (I)

Coming down hard on Mayawati for not providing fertilizers and seeds at subsidized rates, Congress (I) has said she facilitated black marketing of these items in the state. The trick played is that government depots for sale of subsidized seeds and fertilizers are closed in connivance with private traders which compel the farmers to buy the agricultural in-puts from private traders on black market rates. All this has been going on with the knowledge of Mayawati government, said Congress (I). On the one hand Mayawati government talks of helping the farmers by providing them with agricultural in-puts at concessional rates, on the other hand it is allowing private traders to sell the same items on much higher rates than those fixed by the government. This sort of double deals confirm that Mayawati is working against the interests of the farmers, said Congress (I).
